Start Tufting With Courses and Workshops
The early days of the tufting journey is can be full of questions that you do not know how to answer. It may easily become an overwhelming task to collect all the necessary tools from scratch and try to learn various techniques all at once. But there are a lot of available tools and ways to get help from others and enjoy the actual crafting time instead of dealing with the problems on your own.
One of the best ways to learn tufting is learning from other tufters. There is a lot of online content to answer your questions and benefit from others’ experiences, YouTube and TikTok are two of the best platforms to check. Additionally, you can search for tufting studios and workshops near you, it gain a lot of popularity in the last couple of years and the number of available workshops increased rapidly. It would be a great place to learn and have fun with your friends.
We will check each way of learning in more depth with great content recommendations and with the help of the methods listed down you will be able to answer all of your questions about the tufting world.
1. Online Self-Learning
Truly there is nothing that you can not learn online easily, and when it comes to learning how to tuft, searching online, and checking available content on the web can be one of the best ways to start this journey.
There are a lot of tutorials for various topics, and problems about tufting that covers these topics for beginners and deeply for more advanced people. For more proper tutorials with detailed explanations, YouTube would be one of the best places to check. What can be a better way to learn something other than other people’s experiences? You can be part of the other tufters’ learning journey and gain the same experience and knowledge on the way with them and avoid making the same mistakes as they do. You can find highly informative videos here.
In addition to Youtube, TikTok is one of the most popular platform options for the tufting community, to share their new tactics, skills, art pieces, and overall tufting adventure. TikTok is a really fast-moving source so it would be easier to follow the newest hot trends happening at the moment. Other than learning, it is a great opportunity to grasp new inspirations for your new art pieces.
2. Tufting Online Courses
Social media platforms can be a great source to learn a new hobby, especially a hobby as popular as tufting. However, if you are looking for a more serious place that is dedicated specifically to teaching how to improve your skills in this area and be able to become a master, then online courses are for you.
There are multiple different available places to find good online tufting courses, such as Domestika and Skillshare. There are still really limited available courses for tufting but it is not impossible to find a good one. I should mention that these types of online courses are not the most popular way of learning how to tuft, for any other skill it is a great option but maybe not yet for the tufting craft.
3. Tufting Workshops
Like most of the other crafting hobbies, tufting is a highly manual art and because of this reason, tufting studios and workshops are truly the best way to experience tufting practice. I must say that it has its own challenges though. Because if you are not living in those lucky cities that have available tufting workshops, it can be quite hard to attend one. In addition to this, even if there are accessible studios, it may be a bit pricy only for a few hours of an event. Tufting is already not the cheapest hobby to start so this additional cost is worth your consideration.
After this quick warning, it is time to mention some good tufting workshops. If you are located in places like the United States, Canada, Germany, England, or the Netherlands you may have quite some options to choose from. You can check Tuft The World, Scattered Kind, Cut Loop Studio to have more information about available workshop dates.
#Bonus: Community Platforms
Personally, when I started my tufting journey, I learned most of my initial knowledge from the community platforms like Reddit. Probably it is possible to find answers to all of your questions on the r/Tufting subreddit page. If you are having a problem or trying to find an answer to one of your beginner questions, it is highly possible that someone else already asked the same questions before and found the answer she/he needs.
Of course, there are countless methods, and techniques to gain experience in a new area but I tried to collect the 3+1 best ways that helped me the most when I started tufting. Feel free to experiment with new styles and methods and share your own experiences with others in the community.
